Merry Christmas!

I’m not much of a Christmas person. I’m far from a traditionalist in the holiday. My kids always knew it would soon be Christmas when the Cryptkeeper belted out We Wish You’d Bury the Mrs., Juggle Bills, or Deck the Halls with Parts of Charlie.



Actually, my children were not aware of the actual lyrics to “Up on the housetop”. My poor son kept confusing “Up on the housetop reindeer pause, out jumps good ole Santa Clause” with “Up on the rooftop with nails and saws, I’m gonna catch old Santa Claus…” During his third grade performance he actually sang nails and saws line HEHEHEHE. (I know, I know, bad Mommy! BAD! BAD! BAD!)

This Christmas is a little different. Our little Alyx is almost 2 so this is her first official Christmas. Yes, she was here last year but this is the first one she’s actually going to be able to get into it. That makes it something to look forward to. My son and daughter in law already have the Christmas tree up and whenever they come in from being gone anywhere the first thing Alyx does is pick up the remote for the Christmas tree lights and commands “lights!” Followed promptly by grabbing the TV remotes and shouting “Sponge Bob!”

It’s almost time to say good-bye old year… hello new.

Our little Alyx turning 2.
Welcoming my son and daughter-in-law’s new baby in April—I’ve said all along it’s a boy and according to the latest ultrasound I AM RIGHT-hehehe
Writing more.
Watching my baby girl cross the stage in May to receive her high school diploma—THAT’S depressing! And of course, planning the graduation party…I’ll be hitting up friends and family for ideas on this.

Oh yeah, and writing more...

Still Looking for a Christmas Gift? -- Buy Books!

A couple of days ago I reposted the letter from the president of the Author's Guild, Roy Blount, Jr. on my Life, Unedited blog, about buying books for Christmas. I'm giving a lot of books this year, too, which makes sense because, a) I'm an author, and b) I work for a non-profit literacy organization. Books, and all they entail, are a passion of my life.

The message from Mr. Blount is clear: bookstores, publishers, authors and readers are struggling. It doesn't appear that very many people are escaping the spiraling economy, these days. The answer? Keep buying books of all sorts and kinds. What better a gift, than a book?

I've put together some favorite lists, all available on Amazon, and thought I'd post them here for those of you who are interested in buying books for Christmas.

Oh, and a trick I learned from my sister about buying on Amazon. She has children and grandchildren scattered all across the world. She has them go to Amazon and create their wish lists, then she picks books from their list and has them shipped straight to their homes. Cool, huh?
